My First Ever Blog..

Heading out to my local patch..

Hey, Welcome to my first ever blog post.. I have been thinking for a long time to start a blog, but struggled on knowing where to start. I wanted somewhere that i create memories of places i have been, or things i have done and achieved with my photography, other than posting them on social media..

So what best way just to give it a go and see where it leads.. I decided to head out to my local patch Pendeford Mill Nature Reserve, what a little gem it is and to be on the doorstep too.. As i parked the car in the spacious car park, noticed there are toilets on site, this is always a winner.

Headed on through the gate, there were lots of birds singing, the cows were in the distance in the field, it was a very hot and sunny day. I went on a mission to capture butterflies and dragonflies, in hope i will succeed. I haven’t yet splashed out on a macro lens but armed with my 28mm -200mm Tamron lens i thought i would be able to catch more or less anything in nature.

I stopped at the pools edge. There were herons nesting in the trees, few mallards ducks, coots & geese on the water.

Carrying on down the path, through the woods, i get to the side of the riverbank, there are lots of nettles, buttercups. And a few butterflies that were very active.. Stood still in readiness for those damselflies, ladybugs were hanging on to the leaves. The blue damselflies are the males and the brown is the female.

After an hour, it was gettting very hot in the sun i decided to move further along the canal side. Came to a little bridge over the canal. Crossing the bridge the colours were stunning, wild garlic, bluebells and also Rhododendrons.

I carried on, headed back towards the car park. The Swans were out on the pool showing off the new members of the family. 8 gorgeous cygnets. The proud parents were doing a good job protecting the brood.

Also had to stop in my tracks a treecreeper was on the tree right in front of me and the ranger was there and said its feeding young in the tree. I sat and waiting and low and behold the treecreeper came back and fed the little one. What a find it made my day.

I really enjoy going out with Nature and Wildlife you never know what you might see. Well i hope you enjoyed this adventure around Pendeford Mill Nature Reserve, as much as i did. Definitely worth a visit, it open to the public, dogs are also allowed however they need to be kept on a short lead.

Just to let you know, as this is something new to me, I am setting my aim of 2 posts a month, Lets see how that goes. I do have some adventures planned, stay tuned for them.
